Email & Collaboration

FC can support a number of OSS alternative solutions to Microsoft's SharePoint and Microsoft's Exchange:

  • Mindquarry PRO: A collaborative software platform for file sharing, task and project management, team collaboration and Wiki editing that meshes simplicity and functionality. It is geared towards small and medium-sized workgroups and consists of two components: a server and a client. However, it is not a conventional client/server-based application. The server provides all the functionality while the client acts as a bridge between the user's desktop and the server. The Mindquarry server relies on a number of technologies, including the Apache HTTP server, Subversion, and Java SDK.

  • O3Spaces Workplace: A Web 2.0 Document Management & Collaboration Solution for OpenOffice.org, StarOffice and MS Office users. O3Spaces Enterprise is a proven, cross platform content management server that delivers sophisticated document management and document processing solutions. It enables users to capture, manage, share, and protect a wide range of paper and digital content in a secure, central, and scalable repository.

  • Alfresco Share: An out-of-the-box collaborative content management. Alfresco Share is built on the Alfresco enterprise-class document repository and simplifies capturing, sharing and retrieval of information across virtual teams. Team or project members can rapidly find relevant content, experts, look at past or similar projects and keep on top of any relevant changes to make them more efficient.

  • XOOPS: A dynamic web content management system for developing small to large dynamic community websites, intra company portals, corporate portals, weblogs and much more.XOOPS is an acronym of "eXtensible Object Oriented Portal System". Though started as a portal system, it is now developing as a Web Application Platform. It aims to serve as a web framework for use by small, medium and large sites, through the installation of modules. For example, a small XOOPS installation can be used as a personal weblog or journal, but this can be expanded upon and customized, for example users might add the appropriate modules (freeware and commercial) to store content in news, forums, downloads, and more. Constantly updated and improved, it draws praises from reviewers.

  • NullLogic Groupware: A Web-based groupware package designed for contact management and event scheduling, which includes a web e-mail client. Additional features include instant messaging, public forums, shared hyperlinks, file system, and a simple order processing system. The main goal of NullLogic Groupware is to make data accessible from anywhere at any time without the need for special software to be installed on the client computer. All that is needed is a web browser.

  • Zarafa : A messaging and collaboration tool with MS Outlook "Look & Feel" webaccess. It includes access to email, calendars, contacts, tasks, shared folders and Public Folders. The AJAX implementation with drag & drop support is used be competitive with desktop email applications. The Zarafa architecture is completely based on the mapi standard to have the most stabile Outlook integration. All Outlook version from 2000 to the latest 2007 are fully supported. Zarafa can be coupled in existing Active Directory or LDAP based environments.

  • Kolab : An Open source groupware suite. It consists of the Kolab server and a wide variety of Kolab clients, including PIM-Suite Kontact, Horde Webfrontend, Mozilla Thunderbird and Mozilla Lightning with SyncKolab extension and Microsoft Outlook with proprietary Kolab-Connector PlugIns. The special idea behind Kolab is the usage of IMAP as an underlying protocol not only for email, but also for contact and calendar entries. These entries are simply saved in special IMAP-folders utilising the Kolab XML-format and the IMAP-server takes care of the storage and access rights. The configuration and maintenance of Kolab is controlled by the extensive use of LDAP.

  • Zimbra Collaboration Suite: An email and collaboration tool. In addition to email and calendar, it provides document storage and editing, instant messaging, and simplified administrative controls all in an award winning webmail user interface built with the latest AJAX web technology. ZCS also provides mobility and syncs to desktop client applications; the server is deployed on commodity Linux and Mac server hardware. Zimbra Collaboration Suite (ZCS) is designed for multi-tenancy and re-branding so it is ideal as an email hosting solution.
